Windows & MS-Dos Documentation

NETPRINT-RAPCO when installed on an MS-DOS or Windows computer either part of a network and/or having multiple printer ports and/or print spools, will direct specially configured output to one or more print spools, printer ports, com ports, or specified drive, folder and files.

NETPRINT-RAPCO permits the reception of a single file from any Internet source for printing or writing to up to five (5) printers, files or devices. It is particularly useful for direction to several forms printers during the course of creating a transaction that requires the generation of more than one form or printed document. The printers assigned can be anywhere in the network environment.

PROGRAMMING the PRINTER OUTPUT: The first four characters of the first line of text MUST have a printer designation marker assigned; i.e. @!@1 or @!@2... ...........@!@5. All output, including control codes, directly following the marker will be sent to the assigned printer, file or device until NETPRINT-RAPCO detects another marker (in the first four characters of another line}; the printer will then redirect the output following the redirection command until another marker is detected or the end of file is sensed.

SETTING UP the COMPUTER with NETPRINT-RAPCO: Since NETPRINT-RAPCO sees only the device designation marker (@!@1 or @!@2 or @!@3 or @!@4 or @!@5) the NETPRINT-RAPCO module must be setup to designate printer or device assignments. The default assignments are LPT1 LPT2 LPT3 COM1 and A:PR.TXT

respectively. To change the assignments select NETPRINT-RAPCO on the tool bar and the tap the letter S on your keyboard. A screen showing the current values will appear. To keep the current value hit [Enter]; to change the current setting type in the new designation. Following are some sample settings:

          LPT1                       LPT2                       LPT3                       A:MYTEXT.TXT

          COM1                      COM2                      C:\folder\archive\qtr3.rpt

          E:\data\ltr034.txt    \\jones\hp5550

Note: direct printer addressing may not work on some operating systems.

In certain Windows environments you may elect to employ the net use family of commands to help direct printer assignments. If, for instance, you were to add the following commands to your NETPRINT.BAT file

                     net use LPT2 \\jones\hp5550

                     net use LPT3 \\smith\oki320

and set         @!@1 to LPT1 and @!@2 to LPT2 and @1@3 to LPT3

and created an LPT file as

@!@2This is the first line of a sample print file to go to LPT2

This is the second line of text for LPT2

And this is the third line to be sent to LPT2

@!@1This is the first line to be sent to LPT1

@!@3This is the first line of text to be sent to LPT3

Here is the second line of text for LPT3

the first three lines would be sent to LPT2 (actually to \\jones\hp5550 printer), the next line would be sent to local printer LPT1 and the last two lines would be sent to LPT3 (actually to \\smith\oki320 printer).

Each computer in a network environment can be set up to print to a unique set of devices. Device sharing is greatly enhanced by NETPRINT-RAPCO. Setting up a desktop icon and batch file will greatly enhance your working environment.

A FEW OPERATION TIPS:

Always insure that ALL computers in your network designated by your configuration are booted and ready for operation BEFORE you invoke the NETPRINT-RAPCO program.

Make sure that all assigned printers are on line and have adequate paper and ink capacity.

In the event you cannot exit NETPRINT-RAPCO using the [Esc] key, it is likely that there is a print job in the netprint directory. Exit NETPRINT-RAPCO using the Windows [X] and then delete the lpt file from the directory.

NETPRINT-RAPCO LICENSE

End users may install NETPRINT-RAPCO on any individual or network computer. The NETPRINT-RAPCO program will generate a unique serial number and then create a version clearly labeled DEMO. This activation allows the end user a 30 day cost free trial period. This demo version is a fully operational program.

During the course of the trial period, the user may elect to purchase a 99 year license. Mail the serial number(s) appearing on the NETPRINT-RAPCO screen together with a check or money order in the amount of $95.00 (Arkansas purchasers include 9.25% sales tax) for each individual NETPRINT-RAPCO installation. Note that each computer in a network has a unique serial number appearing on the NETPRINT-RAPCO display screen. Rent-A-Program, Corp. Will send you an authorizing code for each installation by mail or Email, if you include your Email address with your remittance.

With the authorizing code in hand, start the NETPRINT-RAPCO program the tap the letter [I]. Wait a few seconds and then you will be prompted to type in the authorizing code. Use ONLY capital letters when typing in the code. If properly installed, the DEMO display will no longer appear on the screen.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

          1. Either download netprint.zip or copy it from diskette or CD to a folder:

e.g. c:\donotdelete or c:\netprint etc. Extract (PKUNZIP) all files into this directory.

2. If you need to execute net use commands it is necessary for you to create a batch file e.g.

                     net use lpt1 /delete

                     net use lpt2 /delete

                     net use lpt1 \\server\printername1

                     net use lpt2 \\station1\printername2

                     netprint

Finally, create a shortcut to the desktop so as to make execution easy.

If netprint will operate only on a single machine simply create a shortcut to netprint on the desktop.
